This Weekend in NYC: Monica Bill Barnes & Company

Hi all —

Ira here, reminding anyone near New York that the dance troupe that was in the episode we did onstage back in May is performing this weekend. You only have a few days to get tickets. I’ll be joining them onstage. Not to dance. That would be horrible. But I’ll introduce them, and talk to them a little about their work, which is very different from most dance companies.

I’ve seen big chunks of the material they’ll be performing and it’s all pretty great. Their thought is that there’s an audience out there which doesn’t go to dance performances which might like what they do, and I have to say I agree 100% with that. I barely ever go to dance, and sometimes don’t feel like I "get" dance. But their work is immediate and emotional and sometimes truly really funny.

If you saw them in our live show, you know what I’m talking about. For weeks after that show, people asked me where they could see a full show. I’m here with this message to you, saying the place you see them is Skirball Center, in New York, Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. If you come out, I think you’ll have the same experience I had when I first saw them perform. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed. They’re out to entertain.
