Almost all the producers at This American Life have had the same experience: We've been pitched stories by our parents. In the past, we've invariably rejected these story ideas—either out of petulance, or because the idea was too big, or too small, or simply terrible. But this week, for our 400th episode, we pay our parents the respect they are due: Each producer solicited ideas from a parent, and chose one idea to pursue, lousy or not. Our entire show this week is one long story, sort of a real-life Hardy Boys mystery. More than most of our shows, this one lends itself to a Hollywood-style tagline. Perhaps: "You Might Break In ... But You'll Never Forget." Or "Dead Letters Tell No Tales."

This American Life iPhone App
Extra! Extra! Stream all about it! We are super proud to unveil our brand new application for the iPhone and iPod touch. It's only $2.99, and pretty packed with features:- On-demand access to every radio episode we've ever produced
- Lists of staff favorites, and the ability to save your own favorites list
- Countdown to the Friday night live feed, which you can stream in the app
- Exclusive extras like Ira Glass' and David Sedaris' first radio stories, video of live events, excerpts from our television show, audio of Ira Glass interviewing Terry Gross (and vice versa), a word from Torey Malatia (he's real!)

International Downloads now functioning on iTunes
For a while there, people outside the US weren't able to download This American Life episodes on iTunes. That should be all fixed now. Apologies for the delay, international friends. You can download any episode you like here. And folks in the US can of course still download too.
